Is cold formed blister pack the best option for me?

Cold-formed blister packaging, also known as hard double aluminum packaging, is packaged by sealing with PTP aluminum foil (top/lidding) and cold forming foil (referred to as "CFF", bottom foil). Because this type of packaging looks very beautiful and has good effects, it is used by more and more pharmaceutical companies to package their products. But the price of this packaging material is also relatively high, so some customers have asked: Is cold-formed blister packaging the best choice for me?

How did cold-formed blister come about?

Cold-formed blister packaging, like other pharmaceutical packaging, originated in food packaging applications. In the 1970s, the earliest cold-formed blister prototypes were used to package jams. Then in the mid-1970s, Bayer teamed up with some material scientists to find a suitable packaging for aspirin tablets. At that time, the bottom application structure they chose was PE/ALU/OPA, which is a packaging material similar to tear-off film. It was not until the end of the 1970s that the cold-formed blister evolved into our current structure of OPA/ALU/PVC, and was well temperature-free heat-sealed with PTP aluminum foil.

Where is cold aluminum good?

Compared with the most common PVC material, cold aluminum is an upgraded version of the packaging, and it has all the properties of PVC (easy to form, with barrier properties). For cold aluminum, because of the properties of aluminum foil, the barrier effect of the material is 60 times that of PVC, and the stability of the packaged drugs is much better than that of PVC.

Secondly, the sealing of cold aluminum and PTP aluminum foil does not require heating. For temperature-sensitive drugs, the temperature of PVC brewing and heating and sealing will affect the quality of the packaged drugs.

What are the disadvantages of cold aluminum?

The biggest disadvantage of cold aluminum is the price. Since cold aluminum is a composite material, its price is much higher than that of ordinary PVC. Cold-formed blisters require more packaging material than PVC blisters to pack the same number and size of tablets or capsules. This is mainly due to the limitations of the cold forming process, which uses pins to press cavity geometries into thin aluminum sheets. Aluminum cannot form angles close to 90 degrees, resulting in larger cavities and blister cards than necessary. Additionally, cold forming is slower to produce than thermoforming, requires dedicated feeders, increases inspection complexity due to the opacity of the card, and higher secondary due to larger packaging Packaging and logistics costs.

What kind of products are suitable for cold forming packaging?

So what kind of product needs to choose this type of packaging, mainly determined by the characteristics and added value of the product. For drugs that are easy to absorb moisture, easy to oxidize, need to be protected from light, sensitive to temperature and have high added value, we recommend using cold-formed packaging materials. Pharmaceutical aluminum foil packaging materials play a crucial role in the pharmaceutical industry, as they can effectively protect drugs and extend their shelf life. However, many people have doubts about whether pharmaceutical aluminum foil packaging materials have an expiration date. In fact, aluminum foil itself usually does not have a specific shelf life, but in practical use, we still need to pay attention to and control its shelf life to some extent.
PTP (Press Through Packaging) blister foils are a type of packaging used extensively in the pharmaceutical industry to protect and preserve medications.
Pharmaceutical packaging materials refer to materials used to meet the requirements of packaging containers, packaging decoration, packaging printing, packaging transportation, etc. It includes main packaging materials such as metal, plastic, glass, ceramics, paper, bamboo, wild mushrooms, natural fibers, chemical fibers, composite materials, as well as auxiliary materials such as coatings, adhesives, straps, decorations, and printing materials.
As a pharmaceutical manufacturer, choosing the right pharmaceutical packaging materials is crucial because packaging not only directly relates to the quality and stability of the product, but also to the health and safety of consumers. So, let me introduce some guidelines for choosing suitable pharmaceutical packaging materials.
The field of pharmaceutical packaging has been constantly pursuing safer and more effective packaging materials. As a new type of packaging material, strip foil has broad application prospects and continued development trends.
Alu-Alu and Alu-Blister are two kinds of packaging method for food, medicine and nutrition industry especially for hard tablets and capsules. Then what is the difference between these two ways and how to choose the proper ways of packing for your own products, you may want to dig inside.
JEREL Pharma Pack will attend 2023 Algeria Maghreb Pharma Expo from February 5th to 7th with booth no. J21.   Jerel has been exporting pharma packing materials to North and South Africa since 2010. With over 10 years cooperation with African pharmaceutical companies and printing factories, Jerel has gain great support from Africa market.   It is the very first station that JEREL goes after 3 year of COVID-19, hope to see all new and old friends within this exhibition.   Contact person on booth: Skylar Min (email: skylarmin@jerelpack.com, whatsapp:86-13776425960) Spring Zhou (email: zc@jerelpack.com, whatsapp:86-13852707562)
As a supplier of pharmaceutical packaging materials that has always been export-oriented and supplemented by domestic sales, today we will talk to you about the differences in the procurement of pharmaceutical packaging materials for domestic and foreign customers!
There are several major producers of pharmaceutical packaging materials in the world, which basically monopolize the global pharmaceutical packaging material market, and each has a strong regional competitive advantage. Then China's pharmaceutical packaging materials go overseas, and even go to foreign high-end markets, what opportunities and challenges are there in the middle, let us take an inventory.
As early as before the COVID-19, after the trade war, production and the foundry of large factories began to move out of China, looking for new suppliers to produce large countries. Under such a premise, Vietnam's manufacturing industry has ushered in a new opportunity for development.
From the perspective of the international market, the world has entered the post-epidemic era since March. There are many rhetoric about China's manufacturing, China's export, and China's supply chain. Today, we will talk about the export trend of the pharmaceutical packaging industry after the epidemic from the perspective of a producer and an exporter.
As blister packaging materials with high barrier properties, PVC/PVDC film and cold form aluminum foil for pharmaceuticals are popular choices for pharmaceutical packaging materials. For the selection of materials, what factors need to be considered in order to protect the drug itself and be economical? Today we will briefly sort it out.
